The gift and the labelsThe gift and the labels
I saw Sakis on stage for the first time in Chaos. And I want to phrase my opinion, coolheaded and without passion and prejudice. Even if I am considered a heretic by the silent and not so silent majority, who have nothing better to do than label other people. The kid is a star. What does that mean? He is not just a beautiful face and a body that makes girlies scream and shout. He has charisma. He sings and he glows and gives everything he has on stage. He has a unique presence that dominates the shows he participates in. What about the songs he sings? Well they are certainly not typical “modern Greek songs”. But that doesn’t mean they are to be looked down. It doesn’t mean that they are silly or not difficult enough or trash as some people want to call them.
Sakis has been looked down and has fallen prey to all sort of serious critics. Well guess what? After eight years he is still standing. That is not pure fluke of chance. It is just a matter of time before he becomes the huge star he is meant to be. Because, like I said before he has charisma. And be certain that a time will come when his star quality will be widely recognized. Let me just remind you what people said in the 60’ s about Kazantzidi (no I wouldn’t dare to make a comparison) that today is considered a national treasure. Or what was said about Anna Vissi, which today is the undisputed No 1 Greek female singer. I can tell the difference between trash and quality. I can’t compare uneven thing but cannot bury charisma either. As for the “character” and “integrity” and the devotion to the “noble and true”, that some people say Sakis lacks and other serious singers don’t, well allow me to have my serious doubts. Time has a way of proving us wrong so let’s don’t label anyone yet.
