The 2004 Eurovision Song Contest has got the highest TV ratings since 1990The 2004 Eurovision Song Contest has got the highest TV ratings since 1990
Esc 2004 managed to become even more popular than "Whispers of the heart", the beauty contest of 1992 and the legendary "Anastasia". Somewhere between 3.1 million viewers had tuned to the NET frequency between 23:00 and 23:15 on Saturday, at the time when Sakis Rouvas appeared on the stage of Abdi Ipektsi and presented "Shake it". At that quarter of the hour the ratings showed a staggering 36.4% but even that wasn't the highest point of the ratings.
The Eurovision Song Contest managed to get the highest ratings and created a new record in the history of Greek television between 00:15 and 00:30. The ratings for that 15 minutes has risen in 38.1% (3.5 million viewers) because that's when the vote was in progress. More than 120.0000 phone calls were received by OTE (the national phone company) according to unofficial records given to publicity by sources in NET. That's roughly the number of Greeks that participated in the vote. From those phone calls 48% were supporting Cyprus, Albania and Serbia & Montenegro got 10% each, while Ukraine only got 9% of the votes. Until late last night we didn't have the records of the people who participated by sending SMS because the foreign company that was in charge of that, after a special agreement with Esc, had not released the results yet. Info According to the most renown ratings company in Greece, AGB Hellas, around 5 million people watched the Esc 2004 even for just one minute.
